Discuss Deutschland

Item: Deutschland

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Design_issue

Extra Details: According to imdb, Deutschland 83 is one series with eight episodes and Deutschland 86 is another series with ten episodes. They have different imdb ids (tt4445154 and tt6148324). There's an upcoming show called Deutschland 89, yet another imdb id (tt8760304). Deutschland 83 was produced by RTL and UFA Fiction, Deutschland 86 was produced by only UFA Fiction (not sure if it was even shown on the German tv channel RTL). Deutschland 89 seems to be produced by Amazon. While some of the main character reappear for 86 that were in 83, not all do (e.g. General Wolfgang Edel was in 83, but not 86, and there are new characters in 86 that were not in 83, but themoviedb says he's in 18 episodes). Could this be split apart or should this be kept as one show with multiple seasons?

Thanks. Ruben

I really don't know whose idea by wikipeda it was to call this series Deutschland, nowhere the show is named like this. I would prefer to have single entries for each series ( Deutschland 83 , 86 and 89)

Could this be split apart

Nope. We follow the original broadcaster: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B018J45ERC/ and that's also where the official name comes from.

Amazon wasn't the official broadcaster https://www.fernsehserien.de/deutschland-83 https://www.crew-united.com/projekte/displayProjectdata.asp?IDPD=192009 first it was on RTL, Amazon has the rights to the third season

UFA, the production company, has individual pages for Deutschland 83 (https://www.ufa.de/produktionen/deutschland83) and for Deutschland 86 (https://www.ufa.de/produktionen/deutschland86). Amazon decided to group it all into one show with individual seasons, but they are just one of the companies that picked up the rights to it. In the US, Sundance Channel (where I watched it), kept them apart from one another as the production company does. The Bluray I just received for it has one Bluray box for Deutschland 83 and then another Bluray box for Deutschland 86.

Wikipedia keeps them as individual entries, showing that 83 and 86 are one season each, with eight and ten episodes respectively. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschland_83 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschland_86 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschland_89

Wikipedia also says this about Deutschland 83: "The series premiered in the United States on 17 June 2015, on SundanceTV, making it the first German-language series to air on a US network." which coincides with my recollection that I was able to watch it in the US months before my friends and family were able to watch it on RTL (where it started in November of 2015).

Amazon lists publication of the first episode as 26 November 2015, so months later.

Amazon has the rights to the third season

It also was the original broadcaster for the second season!

@bigben212 We always follow the original network. All of our TV guidelines in the Bible: https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/tv/59f73eb49251416e71000026

edit:

Wikipedia keeps them as individual entries

DE Wikipedia has them as two seasons: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschland_(Fernsehserie)#Episodenliste

Sorry Banana the original network stays RTL no matter what, it was the first broadcaster for the first season so if you want to be correct this entry must be split, my last words .
