Discuss Westworld

How funny is it that our two main protagonists are expressing fundamental mommy/daddy issues through their programming? I'm sure there are even more such expressions (esp. James Delos/William). And so far what we have seen, at least with Delores and Maeve are two differing responses: selfish efficiency vs self-sacrificial expression. Is this simply to speak more deeply into the immediate reality of created beings? In Ep 6 Delores even says something like "They only gave us these relationships to keep us chained." It's a well-worn trope, but I can't quite pin it down. And it is at once profound yet infuriatingly cheap for me. grin

@Invidia, I'm not sure what your reply has to do with the original post about mommy/daddy issues? I don't disagree with what you posted, but it seems off-topic unless I'm missing your point.
