Discuss Making a Murderer

....but, watching this, I realized that the whole family was on the low end of the IQ spectrum (especially the nephew that's in jail who I believe is borderline retarded). So first this made me wonder if half the family was born out of incest, then the other thought I had was ' OMG! Having low intelligence people in your life could really fuck up your life! All it would take is having a low IQ person in your life to say the wrong thing about you and ruin your reputation or even your life!

Oh that family definitely has incest in their bloodlines. But for 2 people with incredibly low IQs, the dumbest people in this story are the judge, prosecutors and jury who convicted these two without any true evidence to support it.

I agree. I think what makes this movie Netflix worthy is watching a bunch of low IQ people; everyone from the Averys, to the jurisdiction's law enforcement, judge, jury and townsfolk interacting with eachother, trying to do adult things and watching them all fuck up eachothers lives out of pure stupidity. It's an orgy of pure retardedness put on film for us to gawk at the geeks.

Haha yes it is! If I lived in Manitowac I'd move as fast as I could, which would be super slow since I'd be a Manitowacian.

Seriously though, it's a wonder how that town was able to get past the initial building blocks of civilization. The cops who planted the evidence weren't even smart enough to make it correspond to the "confession" the detectives coerced Brendan into or vice versa... and the jury STILL found them guilty. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire town of Manitowac is related to each other and the Avery's were the one family that just so happened to keep it too close to home so they were all shunned.

ROFL!!!!! Well said!

Sorry for the long post, but I just had to share!

We had a case recently in Sweden where 11 people of varied ages were charged with the homicide/assisted homicide of a transgendered woman in her 60's. They come from an area that is considered to be equivalent to Manitowac, i.e, low lifes, drug using general slobs with crap for brains.

They were friends with this lady because she had money. One night five of them lured her into their car with the promise of a barbecue out in the countryside.

In the car, they blasted heavy metal music and started singing loud while attacking the lady, wrestling her down. They strangled her with a flag line until she lost consciousness. At a resting stop they parked the car, dragged her out and watched while one of the guys started stabbing her relentlessly until she was dead. They then took her body and dumped it in a water filled mining hole and drove away to McDonald's and ordered food, $50 worth. The next day they started to empty out all of her accounts at the ATM's, went shopping at the mall for shoes and clothes with her credit card, and broke into her apartment and stole everything of value.

The motive? She had started to demand back all the money she had loaned them over the years. They found out she kept a ledger hidden somewhere and there was a rumor about her hiring muscle. The amount was somewhere around $20-30 000.

The youngest of the perpetrators is a 21 year young girl. At the remand hearing, she demanded to be released as she stated she wasn't a risk to society anymore. "She's already dead" she said.

Sentences is yet to be determined.

WOW! Now I haven't travelled alot, but my own prejudicial idea of Swedes are educated, low predilection for crime and seem to be able to form a great society of fairness for everyone without being forced to. All in all (based on no facts), I see Swedes as better than North Americans. I am blown away to find out that Sweden has it's own low life rednecks!!!!! WOW! How prejudice of me right?

Yeah that's pretty messed up of you to think Swedes are educated with a low predilection for crime. I hope you learned your lesson to not show prejudice, no matter how positive and uplifting it may be. :-)

Ya it's a prejudicial way of seeing the Swedes - but....'you hope I've learned my lesson'? Come on now mate. Don't get all high horse on me. Everyone has prejudiced views of a people they don't know about - and let's be real with eachother, if you look at yourself honestly, without getting defensive, I bet you have your own predudiced views. Predjudiced just means PRE-JUDGING. That's all. And that bit about 'even if it's positive', people automatically tie prejudice together with RACISM. They are 2 totally different things. Just remember that prejudice is PRE-JUDGING, nothing inherently evil about that. Like, because you confuse the two words, I bet you have pre-judged me as being racist. Am I right? I don't know you, so I don't know how you meant to speak to me, but I found your reply to me to be quite condescending. I hope you didn't mean it like that, as I assume we will run into eachother again and I would like to not have any TMDb enemies. ☺

Oh no, Couch... I was being sarcastic as heck! Sorry... I know that doesn't come across so well via the internet, but I felt with our prior interactions above that it was obvious. I apologize and I assure you, I am a city boy so you won't see me on a horse, high or other! My sarcasm was based on your admittance to show such a positive prejudice towards the Swedes only to find out that they all weren't as high an intellect as you thought. I meant no harm in that and definitely wasn't meant to be condescending or mean... I was being playful. Obviously, without knowing me other than our previous interactions above (as previously stated), you aren't aware of my deep love for sarcasm... especially sarcasm that isn't very obvious. And I did NOT view you as racist, I thought you were cute and on my level intellectually and sarcastically. Now that we cleared that up, I would like to ask you to be my TMDb friend (if that's such a thing)?

We can't get a clear picture and form our own opinion until we get first hand information or actually visit the country ourselves. I grew up watching movies from the US and thought that everyone had a mullet and ate McMuffins for breakfast. I'm a bit more educated now.

ok my friend, sorry, I took your statement the wrong way. Just the part where you said 'I hope you learned your lesson', I read that in a different to e than you meant it and it set the whole tone in my mind. It really is hard sometimes to catch the right emotion when something is written (unless you're a professional novelist which we aren't) so sorry again for taking it the wrong way ;-)
