Discuss Saints & Strangers

No version of the Pilgrims story I've ever seen mentions Rose, Myles Standish's first wife. The woman accompanies her husband across the Atlantic, dies the first winter and no version of the story seems to want to acknowledge her existence. Would it kill them to give Myles Standish one lousy line grieving for his wife?

And after they gave John Howland and Lizzie Tilley that little moment after John Carver's death, do they not get a mention in the little summaries at the end? They got married, had 10 children and more than 70 grandchildren and were ancestors to three Presidents (F.D.R. and both Presidents Bush) as well as some other significant people.

Okay, I'm done.

I take it you are a descendant of both. I also get upset when they leave out an important facts out when trying to tell us history. Myles loved his wife, she lived, she made the voyage yet it is like she never existed. As a descendant of Myles by his second wife I would like her to be mentioned in every recounting of the Pilgrims. (my great-grandmother was a Standish) (If you are related to one pilgrim, you are related to most of them)

No Mayflower ancestors that I know of, just a history buff. One that gets annoyed when certain facts in historical dramas get ignored. You should hear my complaining that every depiction the the Crucifixion show nails through the palm when they should be through the wrists.

I love historical dramas. Bible movies are great but only if they aren't recent ones. Makes my blood boil when it is not depicted correctly also. Would it hurt to make it right? Geesh. I tend to yell at the TV when they screw things up. Then kids think things happen that way since it was in a movie once.
