Discuss The Get Down

There's been a lot of negative feedback about this show. It seems to have a niche following, and I loved the first season. There's so much to take in and it bristles with energy and atmosphere. I thought it would be a lot more popular given the subject matter and people involved in its making.

I enjoy it too. I don't know if you have seen this whole second part, but I felt like it was sort of an ending. I hope not, but if it is the end I'm not too upset because I liked how everything wrapped up, not too happy but had some good moments.

I watched the first episode of Part 2 last night. The music was just fantastic and it seems a lot more focused now, especially knowing the main characters and their different quirks and foibles. Another episode tonight for me!

I loved it, but I also don't think it's coming back. Even though some cliffhangers were left (What became of Ra), there was a real sense of painful finality in the season finale. It was a sad end of the crew that started off really innocent, naive and hopeful in Part 1 and ended with so much tragedy in Part 2. Playing the "I'll See You On The Other Side" record at the end adds to that sadness. They were supposed to be huge rap superstars but we're forced to break up before it could happen (Factoring in the note about Rappers Delight in the credits adds to that theory). Even though I'd like a season 2, I don't see how it could go beyond Zeke continuing to rap and evolve his career and Mylene's likely fall after disco fizzles out. Maybe Zeke and Ra remain friends and Ra becomes Zeke's manager? The routes of the other three (Boo in jail, Dizzie either dead or in jail, Shaolin back with Annie) just don't seem like they could tie into Zeke's story anymore.

That's a pity. Sometimes it's good to see something go out on a high note, however. I've never watched a show with so much energy, brio, creativity and visual impact. Hopefully it gets its fair dues with time. All of those young actors have such bright futures.

I enjoy it. I like the characters and the atmosphere. I'm 3 episodes into season 2 and it's as good as season 1 thusfar.

Also for me there's nostalgia as I grew up in the south Bronx during that time. So the music and everything brings me back.

I can't even begin to imagine how it must've felt growing up there during those times. THE GET DOWN, at least, gave me some idea. But, everything is so different these days. I loved it.
