Just watched The Devil's Candy. Pretty well done. Not as much gore or terror as I was expecting, but I was intrigued at the remarkable transformation of the actor who played the dad since his days as the nerdy-ish lead in Can't Hardly Wait (which I always enjoy watching since Jennifer Love Hewitt has always been my jammmm- yeah I said, so what of it??).

I watched Banshee, a while ago, but don't reeeally remember it too well. But yeah, I've heard both Black Sails and Deadwood are the tater's tatas. Just always a little tough committing to a very long, heavyweight binge. My favorite binge-a-thons are for a short season (6-8 eps) that have all aired. Most recently (other than Hap & Leonard), I powered through Sneaky Pete and really dug it. Plenty of little holes and some lazy writing, but overall, a terrific performance by Giovanni Ribisi who, in my opinion, just brings the goods in everything he does. Funny enough (shockingly enough) it was our boy Brian Cranston who was almost painfully miscast, but definitely a solid quick binge if you need one.

Holy mother of #@%$@%$@%$@@% I just erased/lost a very long post, somehow I made the mistake by clicking a quote a second time and bam, ALL gone bye bye! The irony in this does not escape me just after I was giving tips on how to prevent this from happening, advice I myself failed to take. BEEP

Anyway again, yes Sneaky Pete was excellent, a two day binge maybe three. Giovanni Ribisi was always an actor I liked but one that hasn't really been on my radar much lately until S.P. It's funny that Embry played "real Pete" in that and then appeared relatively soon in The Devil's Candy in a form completely transformed from the prior bit role in SP, he really owned that role in TDC, very well done. Mucho respecto for him.

Oh and yea the Bryan Cranston role in Sneaky Pete was cringeworthy, at the start I gave him some slack, but that slack quickly thinned out, caught on fire and landed in the pool at the cheap motel it was staying at. He just didn't fit the role, but he forced himself in anyway because of his swollen ego that everyone, myself included, gave him. I'm not saying he's not a good actor not at all, but sometimes even the best actors just don't fit the part and there was obviously nobody around with the sack to tell him that, especially since he was the f'in producer. I felt like he was showing off too much or something, the chemistry was just all wrong, how the hell can Heisenberg mess up simple chemistry FFS?lol

I would also have to recommend the show Power, completely legit gangster series, one invested his drug money and got out of the hood to own a club uptown(who reunites with an old flame who happens to be a Fed DEA prosecutor, but "Ghost" remained in the coke biz even when he wanted out still remaining one of NYC's top drug kingpins with his crazy as fvck best friend Tommy who is a bit of nut job. Don't miss out on it due to preconception ideas of the "hood aspect" because it's really not quite that kind of animal. I was against it until I found out 50 cents role was very minimal, I hate that fool.

So come on and lob some of the shows you're currently into past or present, I have no less than 50 different TV series in my main TV Bookmarks folder just sitting there not knowing what to or what not to watch. Just don't tell me you're one of those case of the week people or I'll pour gasoline on you and set fire to your ass. jk>not really

Mr. Kills, you clearly saw through the Cranston BS and for this, you, sir, will be given all possible slack I will ever have to spare.

Yeah, as for Power, and Empire, and even the new hood angle on 24 Legacy, I am simply not drawn to it. Can't relate and quite frankly, don't care. What have I absolutely LOVED in semi-recent memory? 3 undeniables immediately come to mind- Sherlock (starring Benedict Cumberbatch), Narcos, and True Detective, Season 1 (Season 2 was a disaster). All 3 were absolutely fantastic- and I RARELY feel quite that strongly about a show. All utterly different experiences, but so freakin' good from the writing, acting, atmosphere, etc. Watching Sherlock was one of those times (as with Matty McConny in TD) when I would repeatedly tell myself that there was no WAY the lead would not be winning Best Actor. Cumberbiatch picked up one and Matty M only lost due to the presence of everyone's favorite meth dealer, B Cranston. And dang, there is literally nobody on earth (including Escobar himself) who could've been better cast than the Brazilllllian (of all things) genius Wagner Moura.

Other than those, I'd have to think a little. Billions was aight, good even, but not something I'd scream from the high heavens about. Oooo, ooo, just forgot- The Americans. Phenomenal show all around. Admittedly, I need to catch up a little, but dang- that is some seriously high quality tv right therrrr.

That's funny...just went ahead and downloaded Hap and Len after hearing about it in this thread, so can't comment on it yet, but how funny is it that I JUST saw Devil's Candy the other night, liked it so much that I started the second thread on its page and the person who started the first is right here. I tell ya...this site might not be much yet, but if the people posting in this thread continue to post in others, it could well become one of the most literate movie sites out there...with a nice productive/positive feel to it to boot. Just a thought...(its not just a thought, keep it up, everyone's depending on you).

Devil's Candy was pretty damn good , if almost a little too good at making you squirm with it's intensity. Something kind of great, I thought? The main character, the Dad? You know what he is? He's a good example of who a new generation of fathers can relate to...as far as protagonists go, know what I mean? Not the suit and tie, briefcase carrying oblivious-type Dad, but a grounded, good-natured dude who enjoys Metallica and the occasional doobie...a nice break from the archetype...if archetype is the word I'm looking for. Its always seemed hard to relate to movie Dads when they so much seem like YOUR father instead of you. Itd be nice if this was indicative of something that could become a trend, because I was all about being able to relate to that guy and it made for a better movie IMO.

You know it's crazy how this thread has fractured all over the place, I love it. It's promising, that's for sure. Hardcore Legion fans have likely long since unsubscribed to this thread, though I am still watching it with only one more episode left for tomorrow night, but honestly they lost me a long time ago and not in a confused way, but in a "I'm sick and tired of watching your memories inside of memories and personal spacial dimensions crap" way. I'm just being a completist by watching ep8 I've checked out on this show completely.

I hope that we can make this a positive and productive site for discussions in a positive way about sharing our opinions without bashing others opinions if they don't follow their own, imagine that, ha!. I think with a good core group of people who actually prefer to talk about the stuff that they like rather than waste their time moaning about everything they hate it could make this a nirvana like community. Show discussions are going to be up and down because that's just the nature of the beast, sometimes shows really screw the audience over and that'd be well deserved negative critique . I'm going to continue to, whenever I enjoy a film or show and want to share, pull up it's page and if it's blank I'll gladly lay down my opinion or add to what's there. I think this could potentially be better than IMDb forums but only time will tell and it will definitely take time to grow it's the "cultivation" along the way that will define it. Let's face it IMDb was an extremely negative hornet's nest, a place where I often didn't leave my opinion because I didn't want to get attacked and have to stop and defend myself from them and if I felt that way then I'm sure tens of thousands of other users felt the same, nobody wants some a-hole loser picking fights or looking to get a rise out of you. I was going to write a new review on IMDb and I stopped and said to myself "Why should I advertise for Amazon's $6.99 VOD by writing a positive review" considering what they did to it's loyal members(whatever shape it was in) because there were a lot people that regularly talked(some users private messaged a lot or hung out in certain groups and censorship of any kind is just wrong.

And btw, I totally agree about your sentiments on The Devil's Candy, loved how they broke up that tired cliche horror movie family, it was nice having relatable characters instead of the same cookie cutter personas. I think the director, since there was so many years between his films(The Loved Ones 2009) that he was/is a perfectionist as the film, while short, not one scene or minute was wasted within the runtime. I honestly wasn't able to pick anything out of it that wasn't done just right. I actually think I'll watch it again and I never rewatch stuff unless a decade has passed or I really dig the vibe. We probably won't see his next film for around 5 years, but it'll be guaranteed to kick A$$.

24 Legacy is crap and I hate Empire, but Power is a good one for me. I've seen every episode of Sherlock, Love that show it's so well written, witty, but not pretentious, Cumberbatch plays it like a genius. I like that they only make a few episodes, instead they make them with extraordinarily great quality.

True Detectives season one is locked in like a 3 way tie for first place of Best Single Seasons Ever. True Detectives season 2 should have NEVER been made Nic Pizzolatto had worked season one's story to perfection over a long time and they pressed him so hard to churn out something new immediately from the ground up and it wasn't a surprise that it sucked in the way it did. I felt bad for Pizzolatto for the position they put him in.

And The Americans is excellent some of the best TV out there due to the realism, it was going down exactly like that in the 80's it's crazy what people went through for "the cause", you have to admire their sheer will to execute and do it perfectly EVERY time, I have season 6 on ice as I like to at least watch blocks of eps like 3-5 or so, I gotta say Keri Russell has an a$$ like a cherry, I had rewind the one scene to get a second shot because it caught me so off guard.

See we watch the same sh!t I just watch everything due to the fact that I don't work, I have boatloads of time to taste a little bit of everything . It's not as good as it sounds trust me on that one.

Billions, I spent a long time deciding whether to watch it and it ended in the way way way back of my TV series list . I'll check it out as I like Paul Giamatti, I'll give it ago.

Lol damn did this thread get stretched.

"Lol damn did this thread get stretched."

Sure did, and whilst doing so has quickly become one of my most satisfying ones to participate in since I first got my feet wet on good ol' imdb (incidentally, my bookmark name for this site is IMDBB out of nostalgia, but I digress...)

And dude it's getting a little funny, the similarities and such- ya see, I don't exactly work either. I mean, I do, I'm self-sufficient, but I do it from home and god knows at my own pace/schedule. So yeah, I'm right there with ya, bud..

I also remember remarking to myself at that delicious apple butt following Keri Russell around. Not really super attracted to her, but damn she knows how to rock a pair of 80's polyester pants. Again, Billions was watchable- the only thing I have a hard time watching is whatshisname's crooked little ginger mouth (had the same problem in Homeland, but what a solid first season of a show that was). Forgot that I just binged the 6 ep Night Manager last week. Solid stuff. A touch slow moving at times, but well done, and the lead fella did a great job.
