Setting up the scene. Joan lies in her hospital bed, confident she has finally defeated Bette, the studio and all her imaginary enemies. The radio comes on "It looks like Fox's Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte is back on again. The studio is saying bye bye to Joan Crawford and hello Miss Olivia de Havilland. Another two-time Academy Award winning actress joins her old pal Bette Davis."

Joan is first catatonic. "They can't do that." Then in a volcanic burst of rage ... "NOOOOOO !!"

Joan picks up the vase of flowers on her stand and flings it violently at Mamacita, misses her, shattering the window.

Mamacita picks up her purse and coat. Joan: "What are you doing?" Mamacita: "Leaving. I told you the next time you throw something at my head, I leave." Mamacita walks out the door.

Joan: "No. No wait! Mamacita! A suddenly agile Joan leaps out of bed to chase after her, pleading in agony: "Wait! You can't leave me now! Not after what they've done to me!"

Mamacita: "You did it to yourself." Ain't truth a bitch. No sympathy from moi.

Agreed. Loved that scene. Glad Mamacita stood up for herself and stuck to her guns. No way I'd be working for some loose canon who threw things at me all the time.

The exact translation of mamacita is little woman, a generic pronoun. JC's number one guardian, her number one protector, her number one champion in sickness and in health was Mamacita ... whom she treated as her sidekick lackey/slave/personal assistant. And she never addressed her by name?! Now we don't know the exact dialogue that really took place. Perhaps she was interviewed later and recounted it to someone. But if indeed that window was broken, that would be evidence of a hostile emotional scene, the straw the broke the camel's back.

You are way too excited about the portrayal of Joan Crawford as a bitch. Are you sure you're not Christina Crawford in disguise?

And you are her number one apologist. Are you sure you can't be objective?

For a long time I believed Christina's stories but since I have watched Christina in inteviews (especially the one on Larry King Live) and with Christina smiling as she's taking photos with a wire hanger, and after I watched Joan in a number of interviews, I can tell that Christina was totally making up a lot of the abuse and even over exaggerating Joan's method of discipline. I believe that Christina - an admitted wild child- probably gave her mother Joan hell as she was growing up. If Joan lost her temper with those children, that's only nature. But I don't think the abuse is like what Christina says it was. It is a carefully planned character assasination out of revenge for being disinherited. That's right. Nasty lies!

It would take a lot for a mother to disinherit her children. You shouldn't speak ill of the dead. As far as I'm concerned, the subject of abuse is Christina and Chris's word against their dead adopted mother. They should be grateful to have been adopted by a celebrated movie star.

You shouldn't speak ill of the dead.

Tell that to holocaust survivors re: Hitler. What a silly generalization. It wasn't just Christina, whom indeed was too close to her to be completely objective. But it wasn't just Christina. It wasn't just Bette. It was common knowledge among those who worked with her. Even her long time ally, friend and confidant, director George Cukor. One can have sympathy for what fame can do to a person. To a certain degree, I can have empathy. What really did her in and pushed her into paranoid neurosis was her alcoholism. Alcoholism creates paranoia and delusion. And as I've noted in other posts, my father knew Bette Davis personally, having promoted her stage play tour of The World of Carl Sandburg (episode one in which dad's poster is shown). Bette treated dad with utmost respect. So I may have some bias there, I admit.

What does the Holocaust have to do with anything? Huh? And what a way to villainize alcoholics. Not all alcoholics are violent. Christina is a lying bitch! That biography is a lie. Christina is a pathological liar. How is it that nobody said anything before Joan's death? She can't even defend herself cause she's dead. What kind of person are you?

I was using the holocaust as an example to refute your admonition that one should never speak ill of the dead. Never stated all alcoholics are violent nor did I villainize them. It most certainly can induce paranoia and delusion. Look it up. Attacking me personally reveals the type of person you are. I don't do that. I only agree or refute opinions and arguments in the spirit of civil debate. Not the people who espouse them.

Well how does it feel to have your character be attacked? I would imagine Joan Crawford to feel the same way if she were still living...

To be fair Joan DID know Mamacita's name and it's well publicized how she came to be in Joan's employment. Mamacita was just a fond nickname Joan gave her.

For someone so terribly traumatized by Joan, Christina sure drops her name at every chance she gets. The woman has made a career for almost 50 years talking about Joan. After seeing Mommie Dearest Tina said "that's not my mother". How many kids could write a tell all about a bad parent if they skewed it a certain way? I think the truth is somewhere in the middle and the film is pure fiction.

And the exact translation of 'mamacita' is 'little mama'. Cita is a term of endearment given to titles. It conveys love & kindness. Nothing generic about it. It's a badge of honor.

Christina is a wicked person.
