Do you have a source/link?

According to this the official synopsis from AppleTV+ is "The team participates in a group activity":

@sconaty is probably using the Apple TV+ press site, since that's the overview they use for S02E04.

Which one would you go with? Would you chose one source over the other based on the type of source or based on a subjective judgement call on the actual descriptions provided?

Most of the time, I tend to go with the overview that's used on the network's website over what's used on press websites. The network's website has higher priority over press sites for every other type of data on TMDB for TV show entires so I just get everything from the same place.

S02E04 hasn't been released yet and neither of the two overviews are similar to each other, so I would just go with "The team participates in a group activity" since that's the one that everyone watching the show is going to see.

The correct synopsis is "The team traverses unfamiliar terrain. Mark and Helly explore their feelings. Irving harbors a growing distrust of a friend." This is the correct version given to press from AppleTV+. I have a press membership with Apple, and can confirm this is the correct synopsis. To see for yourself visit: https://www.apple.com/tv-pr/originals/severance/

"The team participates in a group activity" is incorrect. It may be the one everyone is going to see on TMDB, but it will still be wrong. Can someone please post up the correct synopsis from Apple's official Press website instead?

I use the TV press websites of Broadcast and Streaming Networks every day as part of my job. The official press website of a TV network or streamer is the definitive version. You said "The network's website has higher priority over press sites" which is simply incorrect. The official Apple TV+ press website provides advance screeners, official loglines, photography and more. It is from these official press website that other outlets reporting on TV take their air dates, air times, loglines, photos, and watch episodes in advance of airing. It is THE definitive source used by entertainment journalists and TV critics. The correct loglines for this episode are there.

It's not incorrect as I said "[t]he network's website has higher priority over press sites for every other type of data on TMDB for TV show entires", which is absolutely true. On TMDB, if the info on the network's website is different than the info on press sites, the network's websites always wins.

A press Website is a private website (although Apple's is not, as is part of their democratic brand) that requires a press login from journalists who want to cover their shows. To gain access, journalists need to provide credentials and prove they write for a particular magazine or online entity. On the press website are loglines for upcoming TV shows, air dates, scheduling change alerts, official photography, advance episodes of various shows for review and more. Press websites are created by the TV networks that air various shows. Press websites are not TV Network websites. TV network websites -e.g. NBC.com are for the public to view. They don't require a password. They are subject to change, can contain misinformation, depend on local listings, and are not updated daily. This is where you are taking your information, and assuming you have the best source. But you don't.

The first 4 episodes of Severance were given to members of the press (along with loglines etc.) for review ahead of the season 2 premiere. Severance is a show that has suffered with a lot of incorrect synopses floating on the internet, particularly for these first 4 episodes, with fans guessing events and writing them in the style of an official synopsis. I can't spend any more time here trying to convince you to use the correct full synopsis for this episode. But I am both surprised and disappointed no one seems to care about fidelity. TMDB is a database. The information reflected in it should be accurate, and the people who have undertaken the task of updating it should strive for accuracy over judgement calls, and a personal philosophy on "who wins." Perhaps next week, the person who misfiled this week's entry could take it from the press website (now that you now know what a press website actually is and the service it provides). Having incorrect data is something that negatively impacts every administrator and journalist using this space for professional purposes. Thanks for your time.
