What world are these writers living in? What the hell is Carly talking about? She didn't walk out on Jax, he walked out on her, and she repeatedly begged him to return. Jax asked for a divorce from Carly because he was engaged to Brenda. When his engagement to Brenda ended, Carly still tried to win Jax back. Carly didn't walk out on Jax because she was still in love with Sonny. She didn't get involved with Sonny until more than 2 years after her divorce from Jax.
This is a ridiculous attempt at rewriting history.

But even if she is referring to that moment, she was wrong in what she said. She didn't leave Jax for Sonny, which is what she implied. She was still married to Sonny, briefly contemplated getting back with Jax, then decided against it. You can justify this by saying that this is how Carly sees it, but the real truth is that the writers f***ed up, badly, and Laura Wright either didn't remember, didn't care, or just didn't have the authority under her contract, to change the dialogue and make it fit with the reality of what actually happened.

I think the subtext (yes, I'm daring to use that word in this context) was that Carly was never faithful to Jax or anyone else because her heart was always with Sonny. She never let him go fully and so there was always a little piece of her that belonged to him rather than to the man she purported to love. That's terrible, and heart-breaking, for all involved (if this were real life).

Well, truthfully, she has never even really been devoted to Sonny. Her heart is, and always has been, with Jason, who is the only man she has ever really wanted. I mean, seriously, Sonny is totally okay with his WIFE constantly referring to another man as 'her best friend'? How screwed up it that? And Carly's 20-year obsession with Jason all stems from ONE sexual encounter that she had with him shortly after entering Port Charles in 1996. Jason must have given her one hell of an orgasm to justify her creepy, obsessive, stalker-like behavior towards him over the years.

Yes, as I was typing that I was thinking Jason would be more apropos. But for whatever reason TPTB insist on Jasam and Carson so I wrote it following their narrative.

But that is exactly what irritates me about this. They say NOW that Carly is the only woman Sonny has ever really loved and that Sonny is the only man that Carly has ever really loved. But the moment that Vanessa Marcil says she would like to return, it will be hasta la vista Carly and we will be bed a load of pabulum about how Brenda is the only woman that Sonny has ever loved and that even when he was with Carly, his heart was always with Brenda.

Sure. I remember when the FAH-COHN-NEERY cousins were introduced and how those of us on the Board mocked the show for it. Brenda was his first true love as we watched in 1993. Then 20 years later we learn his real first true love was someone named Kate Howard (nee Connie Falconeri). Then we learn that his first-first-first true love was her cousin Olivia with whom he had a child. Now it's Carly, the last one to the orgy, who is his true-true-true -- if not first -- love. Sonny is the epitome of "Love the One You're With".
Oh, and before all that, he was sniffing Karen's teenage angst all over town.

I wasn’t watching then but people have said that Carly and Jason slept together more than once.

Yes, I think that's right. I think Jason was double dipping with Carly and Robin at the time. Meanwhile Carly was two-timing Tony Jones (or is that three-timing) and Robin was newly diagnosed as HIV positive. Oh, the 90s.

When Michael found out that Sonny murdered AJ in cold blood, Chad Duell won an Emmy for the immediate following scenes where he had a gun on Sonny, reciting all of Sonny's sins against him. Michael's turning his back on Sonny and Carly for the next 9-12 months were my favorite Chad Duell performances. His character finally showed some balls and developed a Sonny free, well adjusted life.
Unfortunately Sonny got shot, became paralyzed, coded blue, etc.... and Mikey was reduced to a Corinthi cult member again. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

That's because Sarah Brown's Carly is the only one who has had chemistry with Steve Burton and even that was just sexual, not in the romance sense. Once Tam Braun entered the role, that stopped since she was played a tad more innocently. That was probably the beginning stages of Carly's character growth. Laura Wright being the final maturer of the character.
Rumor is they may be reshipping Carly & Jason soon bonding from Sam asking him for a divorce.
If true, so much for Sonny's right hand man.

In many ways Carly is MORE immature now. 25 years and a character has no growth?
