Charlotte Valandrey (29 November 1968 – 13 July 2022) was a French actress and author. After early success she was widely tipped for stardom, but her career took a more modest course until the release of her autobiography in 2005.

Born Anne-Charlotte Pascal into an affluent family, Valandrey grew up in Brittany in north-western France. From the age of six she lived in the small coastal town of Val-André, from which she took her professional name in 1985.

Valandrey's debut film was Véra Belmont's 1985 political drama Red Kiss, in which she played Nadia. Her highly acclaimed performance as a young communist in 1950s Paris was rewarded with a César award nomination for "Most Promising Actress" the following year but she eventually lost to Charlotte Gainsbourg. She also won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 36th Berlin International Film Festival. In 1986, she appeared in the music video for David Bowie's song "As the World Falls Down" from the soundtrack for the movie Labyrinth (1986), although the video went unreleased until 1993.

After making her debut, at the age of sixteen, in the film Red Kiss, she lived alone in a studio that her parents bought for her. Carefree and uninformed about the dangers involved, she had affairs with “a drug-addicted musician, and other boys at risk”. In 1986, a few days before her eighteenth birthday, she learned that she was HIV-positive.

In 1999, she met Arthur Lecaisne with whom she married on 17 July 1999 at Pléneuf-Val-André. At the beginning of 2000, they had a daughter, Tara who is HIV-negative.

While separating from Arthur in 2002 and following a triple therapy which damaged her heart and caused her two heart attacks, her heart broke down, necrotic, and left her with only 10% heart capacity. On 4 November 2003, she received a transplant. In her book L'Amour dans le sang (published in 2005), she recounts her other love stories, with her cardiologist or Yann, an architect whom she intimately believes to be the husband of her late donor.

In March 2007, after selling over 280,000 copies of her book, Charlotte gave approval for its adaptation in the TV movie, L'Amour dans le sang. Produced by Dominique Besnehard for Mon Voisin Productions, it was first broadcast on 23 November 2008 on France 3.

On 8 June 2022, she announced that she was waiting for a second heart transplant because of new health problems. She received it on 14 June at the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital but the transplant did not take.

Charlotte Valandrey died on 13 July 2022, at the age of 53. Her funeral took place in Pléneuf-Val-André. In the press release announcing the death, the family indicates that a tribute would be paid to her in Paris in September.

Charlotte was a patron of the Greffe de vie ("Foundation of Life Registry") and was committed to the cause of organ donation and transplantation.

Anne-Charlotte Pascal de son vrai nom, naît le 29 novembre 1968 dans le 12e arrondissement de Paris. Son père Jean-Pierre Pascal, est développeur logiciel et sa mère Anne-Marie, pianiste, est la petite-fille de l'archetier Émile François Ouchard. En 1973 naît sa sœur Aude.

Elle grandit en Bretagne au sein d'une famille aisée. Le pseudonyme, qu'elle choisit au début de sa carrière, est, d'ailleurs, un hommage au Val-André, station balnéaire des Côtes-d'Armor où elle vit à partir de l’âge de six ans. Au début des années 1980, la famille s'installe dans le 12e arrondissement de Paris et elle étudie au lycée Paul-Valéry.

En 1985, Charlotte Valandrey décroche son premier rôle dans le film dramatique Rouge Baiser de Véra Belmont, pour lequel elle est récompensée, l'année suivante, de l'Ours d'argent de la meilleure actrice au Festival de Berlin. Elle est également nommée pour le César du meilleur espoir féminin pour ce rôle.

En 1989, elle est pressentie pour tenir le rôle principal du film Noce blanche, réalisé par Jean-Claude Brisseau. Selon elle, la production n'aurait pas voulu l'assurer après avoir été informée de sa séropositivité. Le rôle échoit finalement à Vanessa Paradis. Elle se dirige alors vers la télévision, en jouant le rôle de la journaliste, Myriam Cordier, fille de commissaire et sœur de juge, dans la série télévisée Les Cordier, juge et flic, aux côtés de Pierre Mondy et Bruno Madinier, de 1991 à 2000. En 2006, elle fait une apparition, le temps d'un épisode, dans Commissaire Cordier.

En 1993, elle présente l'émission Flashback, sur M6, puis Mes années clips.

En 2005, elle publie un livre L'Amour dans le sang, dans lequel elle révèle sa séropositivité. Elle y parle également des deux infarctus qui ont failli lui coûter la vie en août 2003 et à la suite desquels elle a subi une greffe du cœur. En mars 2007, son livre étant vendu à plus de 280 000 exemplaires, elle donne son aval à son adaptation en téléfilm, produit par Dominique Besnehard et dont la première diffusion a lieu le 23 novembre 2008 sur la Une (RTBF) et le 27 novembre 2008 sur France 3.

En 2008, elle devient la marraine de la fondation Greffe de vie et s'engage pour la cause du don d'organes et de la greffe.

Durant l'été 2009, avec Jean-Michel Zecca, elle anime une émission de solidarité sur RTL, intitulée On peut vous aider… même l'été.

En 2011, elle sort un nouveau livre De cœur inconnu.

De décembre 2012 à février 2013, elle est la directrice de la neuvième saison de Star Academy sur NRJ.

En avril 2014, le livre autobiographique Vers le 8e ciel sort.

En octobre 2016, elle publie Bombay mon amour, coécrit avec Jean Arcelin, qui relate son séjour humanitaire en Inde aux côtés de Valérie Trierweiler, en janvier 2014.

En 2017, elle renoue avec la télévision avec la mini-série Les Innocents. En octobre 2017, elle interprète J'adore, première chanson de son premier album. Le titre est diffusé pour la première fois à la radio, par Rom Juan, sur les ondes de Radio Ondaine et RCF Haute-Loire. ...
