The Movie Database Support

Recently, many Chinese-made movies and TV shows have had their Chinese translation titles disappear (deleted), causing third-party applications to retrieve English titles from TMDB data, while the TMDB website still displays Chinese titles. Upon checking the information for these movies (shows), it is found that their original title language is Chinese, but the Chinese translation titles are empty, a situation that did not exist before.

I'm aware that there may be some movies and shows that were not released or aired in China, leading TMDB to believe that these movies should not have Chinese translation titles. However, the current situation is different: movies and shows produced in China and released or aired in China have had their Chinese translation titles become empty.

I would like to know whether these titles were deleted by users, by TMDB officials, or if it was due to a system bug.

Many movies and TV shows are experiencing this issue, such as https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1181865, https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/63416-jue-zhan-sha-ma-zhen, https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/638306-two-tigers, and others.

The Chinese translation titles for these items are empty, but they have not been locked (a few have been locked), so users can re-add Chinese translation titles. However, due to the potentially large number of affected items and our inability to identify which items' Chinese translation titles have been deleted, it is challenging to correct this issue (locked items cannot be modified by us). Could the officials provide an explanation or assistance?

This is the normal working of our site. Translated titles should be left empty if they are identical to the original title. Third-party applications should default to the original title if the translated title they want is empty.

This rule is here. I quote : "The translated title field should be left blank and locked when the translated title is the same as the original title. Please do not re-add the original title as a translated title.".

You should not readd the translated titles.

You have to ask the creators of your third-party applications to correct them and default to the original title when the translated title is empty.

Has it always been like this? If the rules on TMDB haven't changed, it might be a change in the rules of the third party, because this situation didn't exist before. I'll report the situation to the third party. Thank you for your response.
