This new feature is promising but I've noticed a few possible issues.
When a name isn't originally written in Roman script (Chinese, Thai, Hindi, Arabic, etc.), and that's entered into the name field, it isn't showing up anywhere even when the default language is set to that language. It only appears when it's copied over and duplicated on the "translated" name field of the original language, something you shouldn't do (which makes sense and follows the rules for movie and TV names). For example, see this profile and switch over to the Japanese translation or set your default language to Japanese temporarily: https://www.themoviedb.org/person/110665. The kanji name is nowhere to be seen and the EN translation is featured.Edit: No longer applicable. The updated contribution bible makes it clear that the main/stage name must be in English.
The name in the local script needs to be shown somewhere when viewing the profile in a different language (much like a movie or TV entry that always shows the original name in the sidebar). It has to be easily viewable for all users so those who can't read the name in the local script, so can confirm they have selected the correct profile. Until that happens, the original name should probably be left in the list of additional names, otherwise, I'd bet more wrong crew data will be added for non-English entries, and probably more duplicate profiles created.
An example of where the current behaviour will be a problem/hassle: Risa Suzuki (鈴木理彩) vs Risa Suzuki (鈴木理沙). You can see the romanized names of these people are identical and they both work as animators on Japanese productions, but their kanji names are different. Currently, the kanji name is listed in the alternative name section, but if it's removed, then the only way to check would be look at the changelog as far as I can see.Edit: The updated contribution bible's guidelines has also been made clearer now: “The name in non-Roman script should always be added as an alternative name.”
Finally, there are many locked main name fields which means only mods can update them. That seems like a big hassle.
What belongs in the original name field? The original language name or the English/romanized version? You're doing different things which is confusing:

I was making some edits until I was wondering that as well. What confuses me is that we have no original language attached to people, so should the Name field be the English one or the one in the local script? I've already asked about this internally so we'll see in the coming days how exactly it's supposed to be used :) Until then I won't make / lock any changes like this anymore.

@talestalker asked about this internally as well and whether we could include all the values from the translated name fields in the "Also Known As" section!

Okay, no probs. I was trying to update some profiles where I could but I'll leave these alone for now as well.
