In different times and spaces, genres like Death Metal are born. The early 90′s were still full of the 80′s vibe of over-consumption & greed, which found it’s way into everyday life, even into the music that was created. Just like hardcore in the early 80′s, not all of the teenagers of this decade wanted to hear the bubblegum pop that had invaded the airwaves. Death Metal did not want to be digested by the masses, and as a sub culture it was totally happy being the outsider. I’m not sure what was in the water in Florida during the late 80′s, because those kids were on some next shit, and they helped push the genre to other heights. When you are living in a certain period of time, you do realize that the life you are living could become historic to others in the future.

In Essen, four ordinary teenage Death Metal fanatics are looking for the best way to kill time. There are girls, cigarettes, drive-ins and petty larceny but nothing moves the needle.

The much adored Swedish death metal band, Hypocrisy, is showcased in both its live and recorded glory on this comprehensive audiovisual record of their significant music career. Partially filmed live at Germany's Wacken Open Air Festival in 1998, LIVE & CLIPS captures a historic performance (the concert marked their return to the stage after a near breakup) that ranks with their best. In addition to their incredibly loud and immensely energetic performance, six music videos, spanning from 1992's "Left To Rot" to 1997's "The Final Chapter," are included.

Apart from main concert recorded in Kraków the re-release includes tree video-clips, eight bootleg live tracks from No Mercy Festival 2001, interview with Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek, band and individual members biographies, discography, photo gallery, desktop images, art gallery, and weblinks. It's arguably the most brutal and nihilistic form of music ever to assault the ear drums, and for many young music fans, death metal isn't just something to bang your head to -- it's a way of life. Whether you're a longtime death metal fan, a casual listener, or a complete newcomer to the scene, this insightful documentary features an in depth look at one of the music world's least explored genres that will educate as well as entertain. Presented with absolutely no pre-existing agenda, Death Metal follows former Carnivore vocalist Peter Steele as he gazes into the black heart of the least explored style in the heavy-metal spectrum. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
