Now, first of all, I am a Tyler Perry fan, and I am black, so I am not being a racist.

But, I couldn't help but notice that the movie seemed to follow the "magic negro" script.

You know, the white people are flawed, then they get around surreal black folks who give them some kind of wisdom or insight.

Now, I know and respect TP enough to say that there is this theme in all his movies, even those with all black people. There is something of a message to the younger generation of going back to traditional values which got African Americans through slavery, Jim Crow, the 60s and the 80s.

But something about this movie seemed kinda grade school level. I know that people always complain that TP's movies are racist and don't have white characters. However, I think that this theme is somewhat valid; like it or not, it is a theme that is deeply embedded in America culture.

But then I think of Tyler's greatest movie to date "The Family That Preys", and this was an intelligent, well written movie. It might be a bit soap opera for some, but it was his greatest work, and had these themes prevalent in movies where blacks and whites intermingle.

Maybe it's Tyler's Madea character that lowers the IQ in some of these. That character has made some of his movies well balanced with a good moral undertone and good story. However, to me in this movie it just didn't connect.
