Extra Details: I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that the runtime is incorrect. While this film was released in several versions with varying runtimes, the 158-minute version listed here is neither the version the director (i.e. Wim Wenders himself calling it a “reader’s digest”) intended nor the one most accessible today. The legitimate director’s cut entails a 287-minute runtime, not a 158-minute runtime.

I agree with this. As additional support, Janus owns the title and their sister company Criterion Channel only carries the 287 min version, so clearly they believe it’s the canonical version too.
Looking at the edit history here, there have been a couple of attempts to correct this. Perhaps an admin can comment on the rationale for repeatedly reversing the edit and then locking it?
