He seemed sad when he remembered how Gail took Nick away from him. And then there was the scene where he put on makeup and cried when he saw Nick and Linda kissing outside his window.

Just watched this again and yes, I think so. For a fairly straight-forward story with few deaths, there were a ton a red herrings.
