This is, I think, the third Tsai Ming-liang film that I have seen and, sadly, the first which didn't really come together as a whole. I typically enjoy his dialogue-light, static camera, murkily lit, bordering on surreal view of the world but here - stretched to a full two hours in length - i found that, honestly, it tried the patience a little too much at times.
This film is in general more highly regarded than his earlier Goodbye Dragon Inn but, for me, that film was superior, with its enjoyable quirky characters whom one actually got to know (it was also a good 35-40 minutes shorter).
I Don't Want to Sleep Alone does have its moments, however - and I can forgive a lot for its quite lovely final shot.
