本片讲述考古学家皮埃尔博士在一次探险中偶然遇上了传说中的史前生物———怪兽哥鲁达。而博士也在这次遭遇中离奇失踪了。美丽的李娜是皮埃尔博士的女儿、法泰混血儿，同时也是一位出色的考古学家，她与身负消灭怪兽、保护市民使命的少校坚一直在为证明怪兽存在和搜捕怪兽、解救教授而努力，两人在接触的过程中相互产生爱慕。由于政府和军队的介入和各怀心思，使得这场科学考古掺和了蹊跷的政治因素而变得更加扑朔迷离，引人入胜……

　　这部片子既应用了很多国外的高科技，又与泰国国内的传说相结合，以大场面、全球性题材为卖点，可以见出近年泰国电影在制作上向着好莱坞风格靠拢的趋向。

　　耗资2.6亿，泰国有史以来最大规模科幻动作巨片，超人气演员阵容最大组合。影片让科幻元素和异国风情完美结合，又与泰国国内的传说相结合，使用了大量枪械、炸药、反坦克炮等现代化武器，极具制作上的大气。电脑科技制作上也投入了大量人力物力，可以媲美好莱坞科幻巨片《哥斯拉》，而在故事情节上又与《007》有几分神似，以英雄美女、大场面、全球性题材为卖点，不愧为今年泰国第一大片。

　　导演自荐：《哥鲁达》这部片子的产生，来源于一个很简单的想法，就是想拍一部令泰国人看了之后感到很刺激很紧张的有关怪兽的影片。事实上在此之前已经有这样一部片子了，我寻遍了古代小说中出现的怪兽，很多怪兽都很漂亮，又令人感到恐惧，并不亚于外国电影中出现的怪兽，所以我也很难作出选择。于是我拜访了一些行家，他们的想法是，如果能找到一种怪兽，人们似曾相识，非常敬畏它，把它当神来对待，但是它又非常恐怖，当这样的东西出现的时候，你是选择向它靠近还是立刻逃命？于是就有了我们这部片子。根据剧情的需要，这只怪兽必须被人们奉若神灵，而且非常恐怖，哥鲁达这只怪兽正好符合我们的要求，它既受尊敬又令人恐惧，人们很难分辨出它到底是神还是来自古代的像恐龙一样的怪兽。

In Bangkok, construction workers come across a rock which cannot be drilled, and discover dinosaur-like fossils of a creature resembling the Garuda from Thai-Hindu mythology. Two American archeologists investigate, awakening the creature which then goes on a rampage.

Bei U-Bahn-Grabungen in Bangkok stoßen Arbeiter auf die Spuren eines möglicherweise quicklebendigen Vogelsauriers. Kurzerhand ruft man eine wegen ihrer gemischtrassigen Abstammung kürzlich erst gefeuerte Archäologin zurück und sendet diese begleitet von einem militärischen Elitekommando in die Tiefe, um die Spur des Monsters aufzunehmen. Durante i lavori per l'ampliamento della metropolitana, alcuni insoliti fossili insospettiscono la dottoressa Lena Janvier: figlia di un archeologo che anni prima in Pakistan aveva riportato alla luce l'artiglio di un animale preistorico sconosciuto, la donna ha la terribile sensazione di un pericolo incombente....

Em 80.000 A .C. no antigo continente asiático, uma hierarquia tribal de estranhas criaturas dominava o mundo. Eram criaturas aladas com corpos fortes que viviam em lugares remotos e jamais incomodavam os outros seres. Tudo mudou quando, perto do final dessa próspera era, surgiu uma criatura renegada, mais forte e sinistra que as outras, que tinha sede de sangue e comia suas presas. Diante de tanta violência, a criatura conhecida como "Garuda" foi capturada por seus irmãos e aprisionada para sempre. Ou não. Hoje, durante a construção de um complexo de metrôs, a criatura foi despertada e sua sede por sangue voltou maior do que nunca, levando o governo a criar, em caráter emergencial uma força tarefa para conter a horrenda criatura antes que toda a humanidade seja destruída.

Em Bangcoc, trabalhadores da construção civil encontram uma rocha que não pode ser perfurada, e descobrem fósseis parecidos com dinossauros de uma criatura parecida com a Garuda da mitologia tailandesa / hindu. Dois arqueólogos americanos investigam, despertando a criatura que, então, entra em fúria.
