在二战快要结束的1944年，纳粹法西斯继续在欧洲大肆残杀犹太人。佩拉斯卡原是位从事过贸易活动也参过战的意大利商人，面对满目的硝烟和战火，他的良心受到强烈震撼，舍弃与家人团聚的幸福，并投入自己所有的资金，开始想尽办法挽救犹太人的生命。这位机智而勇敢的中年男人利用各种机会，有时以金钱作为诱饵，有时凭借自己的口才据理力争，有时甚至装扮成西班牙外交官，在纳粹统治的夹缝中拯救了许多无辜的民众。

It is the real story of Giorgio Perlasca (Luca Zingaretti). During the 1920s he was an Italian Fascist supporter, fighting in Africa an in the Spanish civil war where he deserved a safe conduct for Spanish embassies. After some years, disillusioned by fascism, he is a fresh supplier for the Italian army. In the war years he is in Budapest for his business. He lives an easy life there, well introduced into the Hungarian high society, without any problem coming from the war situation. When the Nazi occupied Hungary, in 1944, instead to leave (Italy had already surrendered to the Allies) he escaped to the Spanish embassy in Budapest using his old safe conduct and becoming a Spanish citizen, changing name into Jorge Perlasca. He starts working as a diplomat here. When Sanz Briz (Geza Tordy), the Spanish consul, is removed, Perlasca immediately substitutes him, like if he was officially appointed from Spanish authorities... Written by 1felco

1944. november 30., csütörtök reggel. Budapesten, a nemzetközi gettó egyik házából rendőrök hajtják a lakókat kifelé. Spanyol menlevelük, amely eddig úgy-ahogy védelmet nyújtott, mától mit sem ér. Angel Sanz Briz, a spanyol követség ügyvivője reggel elhagyta az országot, a magyar belügyminiszter pedig válaszul parancsot adott a védett házak kiürítésére, a zsidók deportálására. A lakók életét egy különös ember, Giorgio Perlasca menti meg.

Giorgio Perlasca, un commerciante di carni di Padova, è un fascista nazionalista convinto, tanto da lasciare la casa e il lavoro per combattere nell'esercito di Franco durante la guerra civile spagnola. L'8 settembre 1943 lo sorprende in Ungheria e, braccato anche lui dalle SS, assiste sconvolto alle persecuzioni ai danni degli ebrei. Giorgio in mano ha un attestato di benemerenza rilasciatogli dal generale Franco che gli potrebbe valere la fuga e la salvezza, ma decide di non usarlo. Nel caos di quei giorni, si presenta con il suo documento all'ambasciata spagnola e riesce a farsi passare dai nazisti per il console spagnolo. Protetto dall'alta carica riuscirà ad ingannare i tedeschi, a evitare l'incendio del ghetto di Budapest e a strappare ai campi di concentramento un gran numero di ebrei. Una volta in Italia, Giorgio non racconta a nessuno la sua storia, saranno le donne che ha salvato a rendergli onore.

Durante la ocupación de Budapest por los nazis, los judíos son perseguidos y enviados a campos de exterminio. Giorgio Perlasca es un italiano que combatió en la Guerra Civil Española a las órdenes del General Franco, del que recibió un salvoconducto de gratitud que le ha de servir de presentación en cualquier legación española del mundo. Al comprobar la manera en que son tratados los judíos, Perlasca decide ayudarles. Se presenta ante el Sr. Sanz Briz, embajador español en Hungría, y comienza a colaborar con él. A los pocos días, el embajador recibe la orden de Madrid de cerrar la Embajada y trasladarse a Suiza. Eso significaba que los judíos acogidos por la embajada española perdían la inmunidad diplomática. Para evitarlo, valiéndose de su salvoconducto, se hace pasar por cónsul español, poniendo en peligro su vida en diversas ocasiones, para salvar la de miles de judíos de todas las nacionalidades.
