Yeah, man . . .
A war set 700 years into the future, where the Earth is locked in World War One-style trench warfare amongst the four Corporations who control everything:
Capitol (the Americas/Western Europe)
Mishima (East Asia)
Imperial (Africa/Australasia)
Bauhaus (Eastern Europe/Middle East)
Present-day (20th/21st Century) firearms, combined with "laser-shell"-type artillery, with air/space transport ships powered by steam, black smoke belching from their stacks, beefy, shirtless men shoveling coal into the ships' boilers, all onboard machinery and navigation systems mechanical, no computers whatsoever.
And then the subterranean/alien Mutants arrive(!), to be fought against by a team led by Soldier Thomas Jane and religious Monk Ron Perlman. Blood, guts, and gore everywhere.
Oh, and let's not forget the guest appearance by Capitol CEO John Malkovich, slow-talking and resigned to his fate as the Earth begins to evacuate to Mars in the face of a seemingly-unstoppable army.
What . . . the . . . Fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta admire the director Simon Hunter and the writer Philip Eisner for completely disregarding all convention and sense and just making a movie that's comfortable in its own universe.
Not the first time I've seen Mutant Chronicles, but the re-watch last night was definitely worth it.
