It’s the late 1950s, and in an affluent and quietly respectable part of Buenos Aires, young Sulamit Löwenstein strikes up a friendship with her next-door neighbour Friedrich over the whereabouts of her family dog. She is the daughter of German-Jewish immigrants to Argentina, he is the son of a senior SS officer, a tragic political legacy from whose shadow both characters struggle to escape over the next three decades. Following the teenaged Friedrich to Germany, Sulamit finds him caught up in the radical politics of late-1960s student life; and she’s forced to make important decisions about her attitude to her homeland when Friedrich returns to Argentina to join the fight against the military junta.

La famille de Sulamit est une famille juive qui s'est exilée en Amérique du Sud pour échapper à l'holocauste ; celle de Friedrich était partisane du nazisme et a changé de nom au cours de sa fuite. Sulamit et Friedrich deviennent amis et tombent amoureux l'un de l'autre.

Sulamit, Tochter jüdischer Emigranten aus Deutschland, wächst im Buenos Aires der 50er Jahre auf. In unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft leben hier Juden und Nazis, aus Europa geflohen und in der Fremde erneut zusammengeworfen. Als junges Mädchen trifft Sulamit auf Friedrich, einen deutschen Jungen, der mit seiner Familie im Haus direkt gegenüber wohnt. Zwischen den beiden entsteht schon bald eine ungewöhnliche Nähe.

A lány a kutyája révén barátkozik össze a szomszédban lakó Friedrich-kel, az egykori magasrangú SS-tiszt fiával. Mindketten szeretnének kitörni tragikus örökségük árnyékából. A lány Friedrichet követve Németországba megy, ahol a fiú az 1960-as évek végén belekeveredik a radikális diákmozgalmakba. Sulamit fontos döntésre kényszerül, amikor Friedrich visszatér Argentínába, hogy csatlakozzon a katonai junta elleni küzdelemhez.

Anni Cinquanta, Buenos Aires, Sulamit, nata in una famiglia di immigrati ebrei, cresce nello stesso quartiere benestante di Friedrich, figlio di un ex ufficiale nazista. Inizia così una storia d’amore romantica e appassionata, offuscata dall’eredità politica di entrambe le famiglie. Il film segue le vicende della giovane coppia per un periodo di quasi tre decenni, sullo sfondo delle rivolte studentesche del ’68 in Germania e della dittatura militare argentina degli anni Settanta.

Sulamit mieszka w Buenos Aires, dokąd jej rodzice - żydowscy emigranci z III Rzeszy - przyjechali niedługo przed wybuchem wojny. Pewnego dnia poznaje pochodzącego z Niemiec Friedricha. Rodzi się między nimi uczucie. Gdy ten odkrywa, że jego ojciec służył w SS, postanawia zerwać kontakty z rodziną i wyjechać na studia do Niemiec. Po kilku latach w ślad za nim podąża Sulamit. Jednak mężczyzna jest już zaangażowany w młodzieżową rewolucję 1968 roku, a w jego życiu nie ma miejsca na miłość. Drogi żydowskiej dziewczyny i syna byłego nazisty stopniowo się rozchodzą.

Cuenta la historia de amor entre Sulamit, hija de inmigrantes alemanes judíos y Friedrich, hijo de un inmigrante alemán nazi, quienes se conocen durante su adolescencia en Buenos Aires durante los años 50. Su amor transcurre con el telón de fondo de los grandes cambios políticos en la Alemania del 68 y de la dictadura militar en la Argentina.
