Harker Flet and compatriots Timothy X. Nolan and Katy, along with three other men, steal $40,000 in money and jewelry from a California train in the gold-mining country of the 1880's. The six split up and while they are hiding out awaiting the rendezvous to divide the loot, Hark is cornered, framed and sent to prison. He is released after two-and-a-half years and sets out to find Katy and Nolan and get his share of the loot.

Kalifornien 1880: Die beiden Gauner Timothy X. Nolan und Harker Fleet sind in die schöne Katy verliebt. Schürzenjäger Nolan will unbedingt als erster bei ihr landen und stellt seinem Kompagnon eine Falle. Während eines gemeinsamen Eisenbahnüberfalls hintergeht er Fleet, indem er ihn um seinen Anteil bringt und mit Katy die Biege macht. Fleet indessen wird gefasst, vor Gericht gestellt und landet im Zuchthaus. Als er nach zwei Jahren freikommt, denkt er an nichts anderes als an die offene Rechnung, die er mit seinem ehemaligen Kumpanen zu begleichen hat. Er stellt Nolan und fordert seinen Anteil zurück. Doch Nolan ist inzwischen ein angesehener Bürger und nicht so einfach aus der Reserve zu locken. Schließlich aber erhält Fleet seine Chance: Er überredet Nolan zu einem letzten gemeinsamen Coup, einem vermeintlich lukrativen Goldraub und nimmt böse Rache...
