Discuss All Quiet on the Western Front

Louis Wolheim, as Kat, certainly deserved to win a major award for his exceptional, entirely believable, gruff, gritty, but also sensitive and compassionate, performance in this movie. Such a shame that he died, much too young, just a year later, at age 50.

Yes, Wolheim gives an unforgettable performance in this film. If the movie had been released a few years later, or if the supporting performance Oscars had been introduced a few years earlier, it seems very likely that he would have won the Oscar.
