This is one of those movies that, while a pleasure in its own right, it's got such a terrific cast that the performers - even if the story were no big deal - make it worth watching.

I love the Thin Man series. I just watched the first one again the other day. I have all of them so will be going through them soon.
Myrna Loy and William Powell were fantastic together. They really clicked. Unfortunately these days you cannot find one couple in a tv series that writer's seem to be able to get right when it comes to married couples. They always start of good but end up in a lousy relationship.
Do the writer's have no imagination when it comes to love, romance and commitment?

I agree. And it mystifies me why Myrna Loy so frequently got typecast in vamp or Oriental/exotic roles prior to 1933, as Thin Man type roles clearly ideally suited her. It wasn't till she was cast, wonderfully, as the female lead in Penthouse (co-starring Warner Baxter) that the breezily elegant Myrna Loy, sincere and lovable, but, meanwhile, great with lighthearted banter, that fans today know and love finally got to start being seen.
After the Thin Man is my favourite (and I think is the best) Thin Man series movie, and certainly is enjoyable. Powell and Loy were, without question, the quintessential delightful, believable screen couple.

She was also fantastic with Cary Grant in Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House and

For sure. From 1933 onward she really shone, and was always a joy as whomever's love interest or wife.

Myrna Loy was also a stand-out in the early '60's film Midnight Lace. Relegated to a supporting role, but she still stole every scene she had, adding her delightful screen presence to the rest of a great cast, albeit in an okay movie.
