Eight-year old Francois has moved from Paris to a quiet chateau with his parents who want to escape the stress of the war. In a nearby town, his father's mistress works as a tutor. Soon his father allows a refugee family of Polish Jews to move into the basement. Francois has a terrible crush upon their daugther. Real trouble begins when a Nazi commander and his unit also move into the house, totally unaware of the refugees living below them.

Les parents de François, 8 ans, quittent le Paris de l'Occupation pour la tranquilité d'un château à la campagne où ils ne vont pas tarder à cacher une famille polonaise. Les choses se compliquent lorsqu'un commandant nazi et sa troupe décident d'investir les lieux...

Seconda guerra mondiale, nella Francia sotto l'occupazione nazista. Una famiglia francese decide di nascondere una famiglia ebrea, nonostante l'altissimo rischio che comporterebbe l'essere scoperti. Tra il piccolo François (Stanislas Crevillén), il figlio dei padroni di casa, e Georgi, la ragazzina ebrea, nasce una bellissima amicizia. Ma la situazione, già difficile e pericolosa, lo diventa ancor di più quando nella casa si installa anche un generale nazista.
