Yes, yes. I can see why people wouldn't want to conform with a society riddled with inequality. But the protagonist (and writer/director) seems to think being a gobby son, a thieving scoundrel and turning his back on the only genuine talent he has are all worthwhile pursuits.
There is nobility in sticking to principles but the this just seems to be a portrait in 'cutting your own nose off to spite your face' and I'm at a loss what I'm meant to take from it.
