"The kid from Kansas moving to NYC" worked for Michael J. Fox in the previous year's The Secret of My Success, which reviewed well and made lots of money.
A year later, another "kid from Kansas moved to NYC" in Bright Lights, Big City but, clearly, the audience wasn't having it, as indicated by both ratings and revenues, actually losing money.
