Was this in the book? Nobody in the whole state of Mississippi ever joined the heavily Communist and NYC-oriented "Volunteer Brigade" that served in the Spanish Civil War. Looks to me as designed to suck up to the movie biz red diaper babies. Certainly the conversation between Dink and Dad... "You got a Purple Heart... I only got a yellow stripe" makes no sense. NO ONE who served in the Spanish Civil War got a US decoration like the Purple Heart.
