青年金水（威龙 饰）通过非法途径偷渡到法国，目的是为了将他的母亲和妹妹从国内接出来。为了实现这个目标，他冒险贩卖假护照，结果成为警方通缉的对象，不得不逃离法国。他前往加拿大投奔好友快锦（任达华 饰），一个虽然不拘小节但心地善良的青年。

　　快锦决定帮助金水渡过困境，毅然接纳了他。然而，快锦因赌博欠下高利贷，被黑帮追杀，这时身手高强的金水也同样帮助快锦解决了麻烦。两个兄弟共同面对了一个又一个的困难，但金水却与快锦心爱的女人佐藤（柏原芳惠 饰）产生了情感。面对爱情和友情的冲突，金水面临着艰难的选择。
