descendant of the orginal?

who owned the original lassie? when they do a remake is it a descendant?

There were 6 or so Lassies through the years. Not sure if they were related.

The first owner was Howard Peck, who sold Pal to Rudd Weatherwax. The latter became his dog trainer for the movies and the television series.
Pal played Lassie in the first movie and its sequels (1945-1951). He was also in the two pilots of the original tv series "Lassie (1954-1973)". His (five) male descendants played Lassie on that show.
The Lassie trademark was sold by the Weatherwax family in 2000. The contract to supply a 'Pal-descendant' for the role of Lassie was not renewed in 2004. Since then, Lassie can be played by non-Pal descendants.
In the remake "Lassie (2005)", Lassie was not played by a desendant of Pal.
