In het jaar 67 v.Chr. tracht Antigono, als heerser van Korinthe, de hoogeplaatsten te imponeren door allerlei maatregelen, waaronder belastingen te heffen van het volk. Tevens wil hij een beeld laten maken ter ere van de godin Afrodite en hij roept de hulp in van beeldhouwer Demetrio om dat te realiseren.

En l’an 67 de notre ère, l’empereur Néron quitte la Grèce après avoir décidé la construction d’une œuvre grandiose : le percement du canal de Corinthe. Il place ces travaux sous la responsabilité de l’archonte Antigone, qui pour y faire face doit non seulement déplacer le temple d’Aphrodite, mais également trouver par tous les moyens, le financement requis…

Im Jahr 67 nach Christus gibt Antigonus eine Statue der Göttin Aphrodite in Auftrag, um den Kaiser zu beeindrucken. Der Bildhauer Demetrios muss sich nun für ein Modell entscheiden und hat die Wahl zwischen der verführerischen Sklavin Diana oder der gutherzigen Lerna.

Antigono, arconte di Corinto, vuole tagliare la montagna per realizzare il famoso istmo ma vuole anche costruire un grandioso tempio dedicato alla dea Afrodite. I cittadini vengono quindi oppressi da nuove e ingenti tasse. Lo scultore Demetrio per realizzare il volto della dea sceglie Diala, una schiava ambiziosa che mira a sedurre Antigono, ma si innamora di un'altra schiava, la cristiana Lerna. Con l'arrivo della peste il popolo è sempre più scontento e Antigono ha gioco facile accusando i cristiani che vengono subito arrestati e condannati a morte. Le milizie romane arrivano per ristabilire l'ordine e salvando i due innamorati Demetrio e Lerna.

Film przedstawia fragment z historii starożytnego Rzymu, gdy Neron był cesarzem i prześladowano chrześcijan. Opowieść obraca się wokół planu Antygona, archonta Koryntu, polegającego na zbudowaniu wspaniałej świątyni poświęconej bogini Afrodycie. By ją wybudować ludność obciążana jest bardzo wysokimi podatkami. Rzeźbiarz Demetrius, poproszony o wykonanie twarzy bogini Diany, zakochuje się w niewolnicy i chce się z nią ożenić ale inny zazdrosny niewolnik ma odmienne plany. Spiski i intrygi o władzę powodują, że sprawy toczą się inaczej niż bohaterowie tego oczekują.
