I get it. It's cheap to make these kind of horror movies. I'm fine with the premise of a masked killer or killers filming a family as they terrorize them. It's a very simple and effective premise.
What I DO NOT like is when these killers are seemingly invincible, all knowing, all seeing, numerous, and capable of flawless execution. I also hate it when the victims aren't smart enough to improvise weapons, or do and don't follow through by making sure the bad guy is dead or making stupid mistakes.
If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times, the catharsis of horror films is seeing the unlikely protagonist triumph over the much bigger and stronger killer. Without that, your movie pretty much sucks by default unless you're making a point (Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, Night of the Living Dead, etc)
Once, just once, I'd love to see more movies take the You're Next route and actually include a character who realizes what's going on and just murders the F out of the killers. Turn the final girl into the psycho killer and the masked killers into the victims. I'd pay good money to see that.
