Discuss Live by Night

Of Ben Affleck's two most recent films, I personally enjoyed Live by Night more than The Accountant. The Accountant was a little too cookie cutter to me. It was a lot like the Bourne movies or other action films along that nature. Live by Night was flawed. They covered way too much plot in one movie, but I did enjoy the journey of the protagonist. I also thought the actions scenes were very well directed.

Both were about the same but flawed.

I saw movie posters for Live by Night when I was in London. Wanted to go then, but the theatre I looked at was SO expensive (like twice as much as in the Netherlands) that I thought... heck no, not gonna pay that much. So I still haven't seen it yet.

London cinemas are so expensive.

I think this was mostly quite weak. There were too many movie cliches in it like someone telling a story about his father and the listener commenting: He sounds like a great man etc. Just little things I've heard too many times. This had potential though but would have needed a lot of rewrites and better female leads. Ben's acting seemed a bit off, the love scenes were not believable at all for some reason. Ending by the ocean was a cliche too but I liked that bit for some reason. These things are sometimes hard to explain.

Ben's acting could be explained because he was sloshed!

i liked this more than the accountant too. much more satisfying and the sub plots, such as loretta's decline and the struggle with the kkk was deftly handled. true it is not the most original film (i could do without a gangster film where the boss' girlfriend is not having an illicit affair with one of his subordinates) but it does not deserve the negative reviews it received.
