Втората половина на 9-и век. Младият хан на българите Борис търпи поражения във войните със съседите си. По пътя на дипломацията той успява да запази териториалната цялост на България. Борис осъществява сливането на двете племена - българи и славяни, в единна държава. Той разбира, че това, което ще заздрави държавата му, е религията. Така се извършва знаменателното събитие - покръстването. Действията на Борис срещат упорита съпротива. Той избива 50 от най-знатните родове, налага се дори да ослепи първородния си син Владимир Расате. Борис става последният български хан и първият български княз, като налага християнството в България. После делото му поема Симеон.

Nonetheless, he manages not to cede any territories to the enemies. Under his rule, Bulgaria breaks with paganism and joins the Christian community, paying an exorbitant price, a heavy death toll, but there is no other way. The adoption of Christianity in 864 was a historical event of great significance. It guaranteed Boris I much need peace with the Eastern Roman Empire and allowed him to merge the numerous tribes inhabiting the country into a unified nationality and later to found a state. Boris I introduced the Slav script, thus turning Bulgaria into the cradle of Slav culture.
