I liked the movie, I thought Joan Crawford had a solid performance but Helen's choice at the end of the story was difficult for me to accept. It seemed to come as a direct result of her conversation with Paul's mother and I just found that extreme. I'd recommend this film though.

I don't think she's been happy most her life. Throughout being with Paul, she realizes a lot of these things, and when it dawns on her that Paul will never truly be married TO her, she just cracks. As her husband says, he does not know how to be soft. It's a very sad ending, it did not strike me as odd. I would've liked some more clarity in regard to Gina's character throughout the film, but also in the end. Joan Crawford as just superb, she really was. Ruth Nelson also did an outstanding job as the mother. There were many good performances, although I think they should have dialled down Sid's goofing just a bit. The cinematography also had a lot of strong points in many scenes, very well done! Also, a warm recommendation from me.
