This sweet, charming 1953 holiday t.v. special, that aired annually, multiple times per holiday season for several years, features marionettes performing Clement Moore's "A Visit from St. Nicholas", then the Nativity story. Prior to the Santa story, we see a real-life actor and actress portraying Clement Moore and his wife. At the very beginning and end of the 27-minutes film, there's nostalgic promotion for "your telephone company" (Bell Telephone Company).
I wasn't yet born during the '50s; it's circa the late '60s when I personally am able to start remembering annually seeing (and loving) this beloved Philadelphia broadcast-region holiday treat. Eventually it vanished sometime probably during the early, or perhaps the mid, '70s.
Since then, Philadelphia PBS station WHYY many years later located and acquired exclusive rights to this. Ever since, WHYY airs it several times each year from starting on or right after Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Day.
This marionettes special is admittedly slow-moving and no-tech, but, regardless, remains magical and cherished. I annually make a point to watch it at least once, for old time's sake, as it always brings back fond memories.
Anyone else here grow up with it?
