I think he was one of the creatures who opposed the knights and helped create Halloweentown. But he grew awry of Aggie's rule as Queen and sought out the girft to take over. Once it was hidden away, he continued to plot his rule until he met Gwen. Once she left h for mortal, he went back to his old ways and had Kal who he was ashaked of.
