由国产才子导演陈子谦操刀的《十二莲花》是上一部《881》的延续篇。

《十二莲花》故事是讲述一个苦命歌手遇人不淑，惨被她心爱的薄情郎一次又一次利用及糟蹋，全片穿插不少福建金曲，让人陪着亦喜亦悲。

《881》之后，《十二莲花》在音乐方面也再一次与黄韵仁合作，两人上部片交集火花四溅，这一次肯定会撼动人心，引来深切共鸣。

As a child, Lian Hua dreamed of becoming a performer in Singapore's Getai shows, concerts staged the same month each year and featuring emotionally broad songs of love, life and death. However, Lian's father dissuaded her from following her dreams, and while Lian never lost her love for music, her ambitions would be tied to tragedy as she grew to adulthood. As a grown woman, Lian finally seems poised to make her mark as a performer when she joins forces with flashy vocalist Astroboy and heartthrob Ah Long. Ah Long falls for Lian, but their romance comes to an abrupt end and Lian is assaulted by a handful of thugs who want to collect a debt from her father. Ten years later, middle aged Lian thinks she may have another chance at success when she finds new love, but fate has led her to the brink of madness and once again disappointment lies in wait for her.

Da bambina, Lian Hua sognava di diventare una performer negli spettacoli Getai di Singapore, concerti organizzati lo stesso mese ogni anno e caratterizzati da canzoni emotivamente ampie di amore, vita e morte. Tuttavia, il padre di Lian l'ha dissuase dal seguire i suoi sogni e, sebbene Lian non abbia mai perso il suo amore per la musica, le sue ambizioni sarebbero state legate ad altro mentre cresceva fino all'età adulta. <881>을 통해 게타이라는 싱가폴 고유의 대중문화를 소개했던 로이스톤 탄 감독은 <12 연화>를 통해 한 여인의 불행한 삶을 게타이와 엮어낸다. 화려한 의상, 집단 군무, 다양한 음악 등 뮤지컬 장르의 장점을 최대로 살리면서도, 현실과 환타지를 섞어놓은 로이스톤 특유의 재치발랄한 상상력으로 서구 뮤지컬 영화와 뚜렷하게 구분되는 싱가폴 게타이 영화를 탄생시켰다. 어린 소녀 리안화의 꿈은 게타이 가수가 되어 무대 위에서 12 lotus 를 부르는 것이다. 고통과 사랑이 같은 것이라고 외치는 그녀의 아버지는 12 lotus 의 심오한 의미를 네가 감히 어떻게 이해할 수 있겠냐고 리안화를 다그친다. 어른이 되면서 차차 그 의미를 깨닫게 되지 않겠냐던 천진한 리안화의 대답은, 사랑과 배신의 과정을 거치면서 참혹하게 붕괴되는 그녀의 운명에 대한 예언이 되고 만다. -옥미나(프로그램 코디네이터)
