A gay couple enlists the help of their friend Polly to create a baby. Meanwhile, they must also contend with their homophobic neighbour who becomes a big nuisance.

Freddy et Mo sont en couple et habitent dans Brooklyn. Voulant devenir pères, ils se font aider par Polly, qui doit porter leur enfant. Alors qu'ils construisent peu à peu leur famille, leur équilibre est menacé par un sans-abri, surnommé "L'évêque", qui les harcèle, jusqu'au drame...

Freddy (Sebastián Silva) will unbedingt ein Kind mit seinem Partner Mo (Tunde Adebimpe) großziehen. Seit der Künstler an einem Projekt über neugeborene Babys arbeitet, ist dieser Wunsch für ihn regelrecht zur Obsession geworden. Kurzerhand bitten die beiden also ihre beste Freundin Polly (Kristen Wiig) um Hilfe, und diese erklärt sich auch tatsächlich bereit, bei der gemeinsamen Zeugung zu dritt mitzumachen. Schließlich ist das Trio seit jeher fast unzertrennlich. Die Empfängnis gestaltet sich jedoch schwieriger als gedacht und schnell greift Frustration um sich. Außerdem bekommt Freddy Probleme mit der Ausstellung seiner Video-Installation. Es ist aber der geistig verwirrte Nachbar ‘Bischof’ (Reg E. Cathey), der die Situation für das Trio mit seinen Schikanen endgültig eskalieren lässt und auf einmal geht es nicht mehr nur um die Erschaffung, sondern auch um die Beendigung eines Lebens.
