The protagonist Roy Fleming's father is constantly talking about his own heroics in World War One, we notice the gun above the fireplace. We presume it is from WW1 but actually it is from another earlier conflict. The father is later revealed as a fake hero. Was the gun a prop dept. desperation and sloppiness (did they have no WW1 gun to put on display so they put up anything?)? Or since the father was a phony was the gun from the wrong era deliberately put up as a hint to the audience that he was a fake?
