Discuss 22 Bullets

I like this movie, mainly because I like the main character, or the actor who plays him. But there is one scene where Charly Mattei's son is kidnapped and two police officers witness the kidnapping and murder of his driver. They exhanged gunfire with the kidnappers using their car doors as cover. Then the kidnappers jump in their van and speed away. And what do the police do?

They chase after them ON FOOT! They stop after about 20 yards, oh darn, they got away.

Why didn't they simply chase them in their car? It seems like most movies have scenes like this where characters make really stupid choices which usually set up a crisis. In this case the kidnappers got away with Charly's children.

Jean Reno always gives a good performance.
