...that the funeral for Vada's best friend took place in her house.

That was really hard for Vada, and that whole scene made me cry.
But maybe the Sultenfusses ran the only funeral home in their town. Or maybe Thomas J.'s family chose them simply because they were friends and they trusted them to take care of their son.

Yeah I think it was the only Funeral home in town and since the kids were so close i assume the parent were as well.

Those could be the reasons. I know Harry should've talked to her more about life cycles and maybe kept her preoccupied until she was ready to see him. Still I think in the end she came out stronger and ready to make the most out of life.
