The film was just okay, but probably had more impact when it came out during the war. It's a romance and fantasy, not really a war film. But it had some good actors that kept it afloat. Remade in 1989 as "Always" (directed by Steven Spielberg).

Splendid performance by Spencer Tracy and Irene Dunne. It was such a bittersweet ending for their characters Pete and Dorinda. Will their souls be reunited or is Ted going to be with Dorinda in the afterlife?
Tracy and Dunn were from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Tracy had a memorable role as Father Flanagan in "Boys Town (1938)" and he won his second Academy Award for Best Actor; the first was for the movie "Captains Courageous (1937)".
Dunn was so underappreciated as an actress by Hollywood. She never won an Academy Award, although she did receive five nominations for Best Actress for the movies " Cimarron (1931)", "Theodora Goes Wild (1936)", "The Awful Truth (1937)", "Love Affair (1939)" and "I Remember Mama (1948)". She was delightfully funny in her screwball comedies, especially in "My Favorite Wife (1940)".
