Widow Cary Scott (Jane Wyman) and gentle and handsome Nurseryman Ron Kirby ( Rock Hudson) fall in love. Only problem is Ron is a fair bit younger than Cary. This causes problems with the town gossips and even Cary's own children who are disgusted and would rather her sit at home and be alone watching tv. Younger men and older women in the 50s were such a no no.

Cary has to make a choice, to be with the handsome Ron or listen to her friends who expect her to live a lonely life as do her children who have moved away anyway, or marry some stodgy and boring older man. So much more respectable.

It's a beautiful love story, plus who wouldn't choose the gorgeous Nurseryman..

The story is set in New England, the scenery breathtaking.
