Didn't really get this... was he basically just saying, "I paid way over the odds to find out the truth. It wasn't worth it."? Because they put a lot of weight on his telling of it and when it finished, it just didn't land at all.

Disappointing film overall, especially given the absurdly high ratings it has here and 'elsewhere'. I also don't think it made a lot of sense at times, in a way that I'm not sure was down to the translation/ culture.
