Discuss John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

Don't get me wrong, I love the series so far, I purchased the 3 movie collection on Blu Ray so I don't hate this movie. But it's easily the least best of the bunch and a little lazy in some parts.

The Halle Berry part of the story feels really tacked on, and her big fight is mostly "struggle with enemy, call attack dog, shoot enemy" rinse/repeat. All the other assassins nerding out over meeting John Wick gets annoying really fast. John spends the entire movie trying to seek out the top guy, cuts off his finger, and then reneges immediately to save Winston who immediately becomes a turncoat, which did not seem organic at all.

Then there's the subtle pandering, which wasn't as distracting as it could have been, but still it feels like pandering. Like adding a random guy in the office with all the tattooed women which seemed... off. And although I'm certain the Adjudicator was written to be a stuck up annoying jerk, the fact John Wick doesn't headshot this obviously evil person when he has the chance didn't make a lot of sense to me. Maybe this will be resolved in part 4?

One thing this movie excels at is the cinematography. I think the same guy did part 2 but this thing looks fantastic and far more vibrant than the first one and slightly more than the second one.

For me its always been the second film. Dont know why but I feel like they tried to go to big with the second one. I liked the small town feel of the first one alot. But I mean if you have a sequel of course you have to go bigger so I understand. I like the third since it gave more info on the world of the assassins and in general that under world.

I understand that. But I give the second one a pass because it opened up and built on the assassin world the first one created, which I liked. But I didn't like how everyone was an assassin. All the homeless people, the street venders, the cooks, the taxi drivers, etc. Everyone's a goddamn assassin. And that ending scene where all the people in the little square stop and let you know they're all assassins, or at least aware of the assassin world.

But I liked the theme of consequences. By John taking revenge he essentially got back into the world he fought and swore to leave, and that meant he was back in. The villain used the rules of their society against John, and the only way he could win was to break those rules and shot that guy in the continental, which opened up a whole world of consequences for John

So yeah the second one has its problems but I think it's overall far more interesting of a movie than the 3rd one which introduced very little that was new into the world building than the second one did.
