I was eager to check out this doc when I saw it was on ketogenic eating habits. As it began I felt like it was pretty amateurish in tone, but stuck with it for the morsels of content to be found. Part of the disharmony I experienced is likely because this functions far more as a global documentary than any particular culture. Still, in the end, it is the story of real human experiences that are so profound.
I was stunned this year when I read a "New Year's Diet" article that went to great pains to single out ketogenic eating as the "one for sure not to try." I was stunned because last year I began (on a whim) to eat ketogenically and have been blown away by the impact on my life. Recently I went to the doctor for a minor medical issue (something I hadn't done in years) and he asked if I had any major gains or losses of weight in the last few months. I sheepishly told him I had lost a sizable amount of weight. He asked how and I simply said, "keto." Waiting for his rebuke/warning/concern, I was stunned as he just looked at me and said, "Oh, ketogenic? Great."
I think this film depicts the complexity of the institutions who are dependent on sickly people and bad eating habits quite effectively. I have been blessed to just quietly implement an eating change that has had huge effects and long-term sustainability and satisfaction. If you are unfamiliar, this documentary might be a good place to start.
