1990年九月，北京亚运会前夕，大榆树小学的百来名学生正在为开幕式的团体体操表演进行紧张的训练。其中一名叫安建军（张萌 饰）的却因为总是反应慢半拍而被取消了参赛资格，和他一起被取消的还有他的几个小伙伴。被人称作“安大傻子”的建军伤心不已，在中队长刘庆来（张晨 饰）的怂恿 下，几人到训练场捣乱，引得新来的班主任高老师（张国立 饰）到建军家家访。而这次家访让一直胆小不敢言的建军与高老师成为了好朋友，二人相约日后有什么问题就说出来一起解决。
