The entire movie builds the concept of Johnny Cash as a centrist, and near non-political person. While I understand that the entire film was building to this "climax" of rebellion and "confrontation" it seemed anti-climatic and underwhelming. I couldn't help but sense that they were trying to make something out of nothing. I would have far preferred to just hear his entire White House set as it was performed, or at least more that 5 minutes of highly edited content.
Cash's legacy seems far better served by causing his listeners to stop and think (something it does well) that to meet with any particular political ideology. Near the end, when his sister said, "If Johnny was here today..." I completed her sentence in my own mind with "he wouldn't be doing this film." I mean he was here not all that long ago and seemed perfectly content to live and let live. Or perhaps I missed a "huge" part of his life and work.
