这张专辑是根据04年EAGLES在墨尔本举行的告别巡回演唱会的实况录制的，包含了大量EAGLES的经典曲目，而且多数都经历了重新作曲,（其中较为明显的就是最初在《EAGLES》中发行的PEACEFULL FEELING，层次感变得更为鲜明）。同时和其他乐器的配合也是极其美妙，比如说LYING EYES等歌曲中间的小提琴伴奏,以及HOTEL CARLIFORNIA的前奏...；此外EAGLES还演奏不少新的曲目：The Boys Of Summer 、One Day At A Time、Walk Away（James Gang时期作品）、You Belong To The City......几乎每首歌都能让人感受到岁月之沧桑，有几首更是极其耐听。这是一张经历过崛起、辉煌、解散、重组,着各种悲欢离合的乐队，同时这也是EAGLES歌迷不该错过的一张专辑，很容易联想到十多年前的HELL FREEZES OVER演唱唱会，以及更早之前的《EAGLES LIVE》最后的告别曲也是EAGLES迷们所津津乐道的 DESPERADO。当然，即使没听过EAGLES的歌，把这个用来入门也是非常不错的选择。

老鷹合唱團具美國音樂承先啟後的地位，其優美的和聲上承Everly Brothers（艾佛利兄弟二重唱）、Beach Boys（海灘少年合唱團）、C.S.N.Y.以來的優良傳統；流暢的旋律與演奏為民謠／鄉村搖滾The Byrds（伯茲）、Buffalo Springfield（水牛春田）、The Flying Burrito Brothers等合唱團的延續，這些音樂特色影響了日後鄉村音樂的發展，九○年代之後像Garth Brooks、Tim McGraw、Restless Heart…等巨星或團體無不受老鷹合唱團的啟發；同時老鷹合唱團也被視為加州搖滾的代表團體之一。 老鷹合唱團由主唱兼鼓手Don Henley、主唱兼吉他手Glenn Frey、貝斯手Randy Meisner、主奏吉他手Bernie Leadon四人於1971年成立於加州，1974年第二位吉他手Don Felder正式加入成為五人團體；1975年Joe Walsh代替Leadon；1976年Timothy B. Schmit取代Meisner；1994年Henley、Frey、Felder、Walsh、Schmit的5人組合現身MTV的不插電演唱會，這是他們1982年解散後的首次合作，該場演唱會現場實況後來發行名為“Hell Freezes Over"的CD與DVD，成為熱賣專輯。此後老鷹合唱團不時聚首做現場演出，例如1998年老鷹合唱團被引進搖滾名人殿堂（Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame）的典禮上，前後7位團員一同表演了「Hotel California」；原本被認為是千禧年的1999年除夕夜，老鷹合唱團也做了一場跨年演唱會，部份歌曲收錄在2000年出版的四張一套精選“Selected Works: 1972-1999"中。就在大家盛傳老鷹合唱團有新作品問市之際，2003年7月中一支DVD單曲「Hole In The World」搶先推出，但出乎意料地Don Felder並未在封面上，原來他在2001年也離團了，於是老鷹合唱團又恢復成4人團體。

Het legendarische concert Farewell 1 Tour: Live From Melbourne van de Eagles, opgenomen tijdens 3 shows in Melbourne - november 2004, verschijnt op 15 februari 2013 voor het eerst op Blu-ray. Deze 1disc bevat 30 tracks waaronder Desperado, Hotel California en One Of These Nights plus 11 minuten aan bonusmateriaal waar de bandleden worden geïnterviewd.

The show features some great light and sound effects apart from the great music that Eagles is renowned for. The 'five-part' harmony song, "Hole in the World" elicits a great crowd participation with the audience providing a 'clap rhythm' as the band sings. The song "Life's Been Good" features some antics by Joe Walsh and Frey with them staging a mock rivalry on stage and the latter having a hearty laugh at the former. The song also features a 'helmet cam' session where the crowd gets to see what the camera on Walsh's helmet points at. Also, the songs "The Boys of Summer" and "Hotel California" feature the first officially documented use by the Eagles of a drum machine in a live performance; in particular, during "Hotel California", a pre-programmed track is used to simulate the muted guitar strums which provide a steady beat on the original studio recording of the song, and which are absent from all of the previous live performances of it.

Angekündigt als erste Abschiedstour, wollen die Eagles gar nicht goodbye sagen. „Je länger das dauert, klingen die Songs immer besser. Indem wir es 'Farewell 1' nennen bedeutet es, dass 'Farewell 2' bald folgen wird,“ sagt damals Glenn Frey, der 2016 stirbt. Don Felder, 2001 von den Eagles gefeuert, wird in Melbourne durch Steuart Smith ersetzt, der sich bei den Soli sehr nahe an Felder orientiert.

El espectáculo presenta algunos excelentes efectos de luz y sonido, además de la excelente música por la que Eagles es famosa. La canción de armonía de "cinco partes", "Hole in the World" provoca una gran participación de la multitud con la audiencia proporcionando un "ritmo de aplauso" mientras canta la banda. La canción "Life's Been Good" presenta algunas travesuras de Joe Walsh y Frey con ellos simulando una rivalidad simulada en el escenario y este último riéndose a carcajadas con el primero. La canción también presenta una sesión de 'cámara de casco' donde la multitud ve lo que apunta la cámara en el casco de Walsh. Además, las canciones "The Boys of Summer" y "Hotel California" presentan el primer uso documentado oficialmente por los Eagles de una caja de ritmos en una presentación en vivo.

Denna konsert spelades in på "Rod Laver Arena" den 14, 15 och 17 november 2004 och innehåller två nya låtar. Denna turné är den första som gruppen gjorde sedan Don Felder lämnat gruppen 2001. Det är också den sista inspelade konsert som Eagles gjorde innan Glenn Frey avled 2016. Namnet "Farewell Tour" har inget att göra med att bandet planerade att sluta turnera, säger Glenn Frey i en intervju. "Ju längre tiden går desto bättre blir låtarna. Det är en form av ärlighet i att döpa turnén till "Farewell 1". Det indikerar att det kommer en "Farewell 2" så småningom.
